Our Story
Back in 2021, in the midst of the UK's COVID lockdown, I had an itching to create something that I could call my own and that I could be passionate about.
All I knew at the time was that I wanted to create something that hit 3 non-negotiable criteria:
1) That my products be something that people want to use and reach for time and time again.
2) That my products be of an undeniably high quality.
3) SUSTAINABILITY! In a world of overconsumption and landfills, I wanted to create products that were made from sustainable materials but which also, with proper care, could be used for decades.
A little over 2 years later, a LOT of research and product development, and following the birth of my daughter, that little 'something' turned into Moon and Moo.
Our Products
Cow and Hippo came first – they were both meant to be cows (my favourite animal is a cow and with the brand name “Moon and Moo” I felt it was very fitting) but my friends kept calling my second plate a Hippo. And so, cow number 2 became known as ‘Hippo’.
Cow and Hippo were then followed 12 months later by Tortoise and Mouse. Tortoise was inspired by my family pets… What started with 5 or 6 tortoises when I was a child is now an obsession of my mums, with a garden full of the things (19 at my last count). Mouse has no story, she’s just cute.
Our Non-Negotiables
Instead, what I did do, was create designs that are 100% original and, most importantly, I found the most incredible bamboo supplier and plate manufacturer (and, oh boy, there are a lot of suppliers out there!!)
Because of this, I am now able to over-deliver my 3 non-negotiable criteria - 1) Products that people really want, 2) To a quality of finish that is outstanding, all whilst 3) Having great sustainability credentials.
But, Why...
1. Fun for children, practical for parents – Not only are our products fun and colourful but they're also practical. We can't promise to make mealtimes mess-free but we can certainly stop flying plates and spoilt dinners.
2. They're safe – Our bamboo and silicone contains zero plastics, Melamine, BPA, Phthalates or toxins, is naturally antibacterial and remains cool to touch. You won't find safer.
3. Environmentally friendly – Our plates are made from bamboo, which is biodegradable, doesn’t require pesticides for production, and grows up to 1 meter in just 24 hours.
4. Great for weaning – The powerful silicone suction base is strong and reliable making mealtimes less messy.
5. They'll last a lifetime – Bamboo and silicone are incredibly durable materials and with proper care our products can be hand-me-downs for many years (see our FAQs for top tips to extend the lifespan of our products).
